Afghanistan’s economy has significantly suffered during the outbreak of COVID-19, resulting in further poverty in the country and the need for assistance with the nation’s livelihood. According to a report on 6 April 2021 by United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Afghanistan (see UNDP Afghanistan website), the poverty rate may raise up to 70 percent and the number of people in need of humanitarian assistance may increase to 18 million by the end of 2021.
The increased poverty has remarkably impaired their access to food. The need for assistance with the nation’s access to food becomes especially urgent as the nation is mainly Muslim and observe fasting during the month of Ramadan.
World Baba Mazari Charity (WBMC) allocated a fund equal to 1,754.39 AUD (one thousand and seven hundred fifty four dollars and thirty-nine cents) to support 52 (fifty-two) economically-disadvantaged families in Kabul (Afghanistan) during the month of Ramadan by providing them a food package. The food package consisted of one ten-kilogram rice bag, one five-liter cooking oil bottle, half a kilogram green tea, and one spaghetti box.
